There’s a reason that dozens of all-encompassing, detailed resources exist for maximizing points and miles: this is a complicated hobby. If you’re new to all this, you’re withstanding the proverbial fire hose of information and trying to navigate potential pitfalls and mistakes — which probably feel like they’re everywhere…
Before I start, I'm a firm believer that for the most part you don't need a fancy $10,000 RED camera to get the good stuff. I started taking pictures on an ancient HP point and shoot, then my phone, then a GoPro and then my 1DXM2. There may be times when you can do with better performing gear, but start with what you can. Don't think that you can't get good shots just because you don't have the top of the line stuff.
Buying your first DSLR is a bit of a jump from a phone or point-and-shoot. You've got new settings you've never seen before and buttons, so many buttons. Before you get too hung up on...
Whether you don't want to mess with a intervalometer, or stitching the photos together yourself, a GoPro is an excellent tool for creating easy time lapses. It's very easy to shoot a time lapse out of the box and have the footage automatically prepared for you in-camera. The older versions of this feature used to take all of the photos at the interval you set and then later you had to stitch them together. Now you can...
GoPro makes several small-format action cameras that are relatively inexpensive and extremely high quality. A lot of people that I know choose to go this route when buying their first camera over a traditional DSLR, and I think it makes a lot of sense. I’ll be comparing the with the stats of the Hero 6 since...
Everyone has their preferences for equipment, how they carry it and their style of shooting. As time went on and I experimented with different styles more, I started picking up more and more gear. I had to figure out how to carry everything from when I'm rolling through TSA in San Francisco International Airport or lugging lenses and supplies in a rucksack through miles of swampy bog in the Irish countryside. In the military, teams and equipment are deemed mission capable when they are ready to perform any operation within their scope. Wherever your missions take you, you should be able to depend on your gear to help you achieve your objectives and get you home safely. You will often find that cheaply-made equipment simply will not rise to the occasion when you need it the most. Below are some of my all-around favorites. I've also linked them so you can check out the exact specs, price, and details.
I've been on a serious search for a calendar that I can actually use for a better part of the last ten years.
I've tried paper organizers, post-it notes, writing on my arm, and so many mobile apps. Yet, no matter what I do; I can't seem to settle on one. This begs the question: What makes a good Calendar?
Everyone knows that you need to book flights in advance to avoid spending a fortune on airfare but most don't know how complicated the airfare ticket pricing really is. Airlines typically offer more than a dozen price points for the same seat on the same aircraft - prices and rules that can and do change frequently throughout the day. Simultaneously automated inventory systems decide at any given moment which price point to offer a shopper, based on dozens of factors including current and historical bookings. This can get really complex but I'd like to break down as much as I can what I've discovered from my travels and research.
